Harrisburg Jobs Without a Car:Aboslute Nightmare

Heya, everyone, I’m AliasRZ, back with another blog deep into the semester. Hopefully you guys aren’t drowning in work.

Today’s rant is public transportation around Harrisburg and the cities next door. Why does getting around here suck this much?

Honestly, I’m intending to look for some jobs this afternoon to save up money to get a car (I will possibly get one :p)

The problem, however, is that looking for jobs here suck. A lot of places that are hiring aren’t deep downtown or nearby; they’re far away from my dorm.

A lot of them are 12 to 20 minutes away by car. Fine if you drive. I don’t.

So I looked into public transport, like taking a bus, and my god, what should be a simple drive turns into something that takes 40 minutes to an hour just to get there.

Amtrak is at least useful late at night, but you still have to get from the station to the actual job. Buses around here don’t run late, so that means an Uber to work and an Uber back to the station. That eats the paycheck before you even clock out.

Then I acknowledge that using these options isn’t the most convenient for me, whatever…

So I tried to find carpooling options at the various sites and apps that exist; I was hoping to at least get something. But once again, I still had to deal with the bull where absolutely nobody is using it.

I get that for the average person here that it would be a lot of gas money and a danger to carpool with random strangers but jeez, it feels as if you’re the person without a car, you’re going to struggle getting by here.

If you don’t drive here, getting by is just harder. Anyone else dealing with this? Drop it below.
