š³ļø Quiet Halls, Empty Lobbies: Where Is Everyone?
Welcome back to another Monday and another week back to the grind at HU.
Today, I want to take a second to talk about something that doesnāt get mentioned enough: student life… or the weird lack of it.
Ever notice how empty certain areas feel?
The library.
The ROM first floor.
Even the HU lobby.
Itās like the building is openābut no oneās home.
š¤ So, whatās going on?
Iāve seen people online call it out tooāhow events come and go with barely a soul showing up. Others say students just donāt leave their dorms, even when things are happening.
But honestly? Can you blame them?
- šļø Events are often vague: half the time you donāt even know where itās being held or what you’re supposed to do there.
- š§āāļø The timing sucks: some events (like āBring What You Are Readingā this Wednesday from 4ā6 PM) clash with actual class time.
- šļø Downtown Harrisburg isnāt built for us: most of it caters to families or older adults, not college students looking for something to do.
š¶ And then thereās the people factor…
Letās be real, a lot of students here are shy. Some of us are introverts. Some of us have social anxiety.
Some of us would go to events… but weāre not trying to awkwardly hover around people who donāt share our interests or humor.
Even if youāre not shy, that doesnāt mean it’s easy to just ājoin in.ā Sometimes, itās just not your vibe.
The events exist, technically, but they donāt feel built for us. And the result? Empty hallways. Quiet dorms. A campus that feels more like a waiting room than a community.
Maybe thatāll change one day.
