Dorm Drama/Campus Life,  HU Tea/Harrisburg Culture & Vibes

šŸ•³ļø Quiet Halls, Empty Lobbies: Where Is Everyone?

Welcome back to another Monday and another week back to the grind at HU.

Today, I want to take a second to talk about something that doesn’t get mentioned enough: student life… or the weird lack of it.

Ever notice how empty certain areas feel?
The library.
The ROM first floor.
Even the HU lobby.

It’s like the building is open—but no one’s home.

šŸ¤” So, what’s going on?

I’ve seen people online call it out too—how events come and go with barely a soul showing up. Others say students just don’t leave their dorms, even when things are happening.

But honestly? Can you blame them?

  • šŸ—“ļø Events are often vague: half the time you don’t even know where it’s being held or what you’re supposed to do there.
  • šŸ§ā€ā™‚ļø The timing sucks: some events (like ā€œBring What You Are Readingā€ this Wednesday from 4–6 PM) clash with actual class time.
  • šŸ™ļø Downtown Harrisburg isn’t built for us: most of it caters to families or older adults, not college students looking for something to do.

😶 And then there’s the people factor…

Let’s be real, a lot of students here are shy. Some of us are introverts. Some of us have social anxiety.
Some of us would go to events… but we’re not trying to awkwardly hover around people who don’t share our interests or humor.

Even if you’re not shy, that doesn’t mean it’s easy to just ā€œjoin in.ā€ Sometimes, it’s just not your vibe.

The events exist, technically, but they don’t feel built for us. And the result? Empty hallways. Quiet dorms. A campus that feels more like a waiting room than a community.

Maybe that’ll change one day.
