🚌 HU Shuttle: Grocery Run or Budget Horror Film?

Welcome back, everyone. AliasRZ here—finally—after another long wait.
(Yeah… I know. I’ve been juggling school, work, and a sprinkle of good ol’ procrastination. Sue me. 😤)

But I’m back—and I want to talk about something that should be helpful… but instead feels like a punishment: the HU Shopping Shuttle.

šŸ›’ Great on Paper, Terrible in Execution

So here’s the idea:
Every couple of weeks, the university runs a shuttle bus to a nearby shopping plaza so students without cars can grab groceries and supplies.
Sounds useful, right?

Well…

They send one regular-sized yellow school bus—the kind you’d expect to see outside a suburban elementary school.
Not a city bus.
Not a coach bus.
Not a shuttle with a lift or cargo space.
Just one school bus.

šŸ’€ Grocery Gauntlet, Year One

The first time I used it, I swore off it for the rest of the school year. Seriously.

It was during Welcome Week. I hopped on with my roommates to grab groceries and a few essentials. Simple trip, right?
Wrong.

I ended up buying heavy stuff—like a trash bin—and struggled so hard to load it onto the bus. My roommates helped, but it still felt like a disaster.
The whole time, I was worried about holding up the line or pissing off the driver.

Like… you’re telling me a STEM school that prides itself on innovation couldn’t figure out a system that lets students carry bags without turning it into a public workout?

šŸ›‘ No Seatbelts. No Storage. No Logic.

Here’s the kicker:
There are no seatbelts on the bus. None.
Apparently, school buses are exempt from that kind of logic, despite being moving tin cans full of people and plastic bags.

And just when you think it can’t get worse…

🫠 Third Ride: Tape + Tarp Edition

Last trip?
The bus had a broken window.
Covered with TAPE and a TARP.
You heard me.

We’re out here paying thousands per semester while the shuttle looks like a patch job from Redneck Engineering 101.

And this isn’t even a one-off—rumor has it that at one point, they downgraded the shuttle to a minivan because of budget cuts. It was packed. Shoulder-to-shopping-bag contact.

šŸ—£ļø Final Thoughts?

I get it. Not every school has luxury transit.
But this?
This is just bad logistics.

  • No seatbelts
  • No storage
  • No dignity if you’re carrying more than one bag
  • And now, taped windows.

HU, if you’re gonna charge us out the nose and cut corners elsewhere, maybe toss a few bucks at a functioning bus next time. Just a thought.
